Soccer in Spain

Hola, I am back!

It has been a long time since the last post. Sorry about that girls! I was really busy back home on my island eating yummy food, hanging out everyday with my new nephew, Bruno.

So, I am going to make the most of my time in Tenerife (Spain) to show you a bit of the soccer spanish culture - how soccer is in our daily lives.

Let's start with two revealing quotes:

'We have soccer from breakfast to bedtime'

'We eat, drink and breathe soccer'

If you think I am exaggerating, look at this,

*Those are 4 of the most sold national newspapers. And they just talk about soccer!

The most important lottery....about soccer, of course!

It is a mix of 1st and 2nd division games, sometimes also International games, like in this example where they even added a USA national game. Then you have to bet or guess in between:

- Home victory - That is a 1
- Tied - X
- Away winning - 2

Obviously we have Soccer Fantasy Leagues too from a loooong time ago. I remember even using my old land line to switch players by dialing the codes in the phone. Old 90s style.

How is the atmosphere in a spanish soccer game?

Well, it can change from one team to other, or from one special game to a regular one. But what is unchanging is the pregame time with your friends or relatives at the bars/pubs and restaurants that surround the stadium. Then the club anthem (not the national anthem) just before the kick off and later non-stop cheering for your team.

Here are some examples of just how crazy the crowd can be.

Until next time, you soccer Superstars!
